CASE STUDY: HATTERSLEY REGENERATION
Hattersley is a predominantly residential area located to the
east of the Greater Manchester, dominated by a large public sector
housing estate with over 2000 homes. The area has suffered from
under investment in the physical infrastructure and a declining
population. DTP played a central role in the formation proposal
to establish a sustainable community in the area through the transfer
of social housing to a housing association, the development of
new private housing and a new district centre.
The project involves an innovative partnership structure between
EP, an RSL and two Local Authorities. This will see EP underwriting
£20m of land sales to guarantee the housing stock transfer
and the phased sale of land to private developers to create a
balanced mix of tenure and facilities and services capable of
meeting the future needs of residents. The project business plan
prepared by DTP was used to secure ODPM and HM Treasury approval
for one of EP’s largest projects in the region.
