IMPLEMENTATION FRAMEWORKS & STRATEGIES - CASE STUDY: ASHTON CANAL CORRIDOR

DTP prepared an Action Plan to oversee a 1.5km corridor focused on the Ashton Canal between Manchester City Centre and the City of Manchester Stadium, which hosted the Commonwealth Games. We coordinated the production of a Masterplan and secured funding of over £24m from a wide range of funding sources, including the NWDA, ERDF and EP.

We were subsequently retained to submit detailed funding applications and to oversee the implementation of the strategy delivering £15m of public investment in the 12 months preceding the Commonwealth Games on time and within budget. This included major civil engineering structures, reclamation and landscaping, highway corridor improvements and canal improvements. The role involved working with key landowners and developers to ensure that our development strategy was delivered.

The Action Plan will in due course help to create 1,000 new homes, 1,400 new jobs and attract over £150m of private sector investment.
